People telling J.K. Rowling to stop writing about Harry Potter

From Jo's Twitter
Guys, have you ever come across "open letters to Jo" that crop up once in a while online? Their authors (they call themselves Potterheads - as if true Potterheads would ever do something like that!) tell Jo (out of the goodness of their hearts, no doubt... right) that she should stop writing about Harry Potter and go and write something else, because, apparently, they just want to lock him up in the cupboard of their childhood and leave him there. So, instead of opting simply not to read new stuff Jo shares with her grateful and lifelong fans, they opt to tell her what to do with her world instead. Gah! I'm so angry and outraged right now I'm shaking! And I needed to share it with someone. I'm not even talking about complete disregard for those of us who actually want to know all this stuff. I mean, why would anyone at all think that they have any right to tell anyone else what to do with their creativity and where to take their famous character and his beloved world?!! Here's this piece of rotting garbage: An open letter to J.K. Rowling: Please, just stop. Can you believe the nerve and the condescension of this person?! Are you with me on that? I'm so furious!

  1. Online presences have made people so ignorant in some ways (ok, a lot of ways) Like honestly: just DON'T read her new stuff if you don't like it. How dare they call out THE QUEEN and tell her to let HER masterpiece go?! It's HER creation. She can do whatever the f*** she wants with it. The nerve. Honestly...

    1. I know! It just makes my blood boil. And the fact that it happens all the time, people questioning why she's still writing about Harry and telling her to shut up about him, because they are done - I mean, what's up with that?! It's not like she's barging into their house, making them read it or watch it or whatever. And after all that they have the nerve to claim that they are true Potterheads!

  2. Oh I absolutely agree with you. That was kind of outrageous. Instead of complaining about it on the internet, she could, oh I don't know, not read anything of the new stuff. If she tries hard enough, she doesn't even have to be aware of anything new in the world of Harry Potter.
It's incredibly rude for someone to give unsolicited advice, especially when it's offensive. (generally when some has to say, no offense, or I don't mean to be rude, or I don't mean to sound ungrateful, then they shouldn't be saying it at all!) geez...

    1. Exactly! I know a lot of people who love HP books and films and yet are completely ignorant about anything new happening in Jo's magical world. I just don't understand why some people think that it's any of their business or right to tell her (or any other person for that matter) where to take her creativity next. And what infuriates me the most is that such letters crop up all the time and they are published in online editions of newspapers, endorsing the authors of such garbage and making their stand valid!

  3. I just don't get people who write stuff like that. As Micheline said, if you don't like it, don't read it! There are plenty of other people who DO want to read any new bit of HP material they can get their hands on and who love JKR for it.

    1. Exactly! I just don't know where they're coming from spewing such nonsense. I mean, if you are really a Potterhead, as you claim to be, wouldn't you want to know more? True Potterheads have always been known for their unquenchable thirst for more - for them the story was never over and there has always been hope for something new to come - otherwise, you have no right to carry that title or else you don't understand what it truly means. Just. Don't. Read. How hard can that be?!

  4. Yeah, I saw this the other day and decided to avoid it. Seriously, Rowling can't win. She writes Casual Vacancy and everybody's disappointing it's not HP or HP-like. She writes under a pseudonym to get real feedback on her books and it becomes public. Now she goes back to HP because she has inspiration and it's time for her (whether anyone else likes it or not!) and she gets criticized for it. Don't you just hate people sometimes?!

  5. Wow! That's ludicrous. I never have been able to understand why people use their time to tear others down. Unfortunately in this day and age, it's become commonplace. Why do people feel the need to make sure their voice is heard even when there's nothing good to say? I was raised on the, "If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all" philosophy. There are those of us that are very thankful that Queen Jo goes above and beyond what the usual author provides their die-hard fans. The good news here is that I'm sure she gets many more letters telling her how incredible she is than she does drivel like this.
